PROJECT BRIEF

Timeline

Sep 21 – Jan 22

Client

This project was created in the course of my master’s studies in Digital Design. The company “Ginlos” is fictional.

Ginlos produces alcohol-free, organic gin made from juniper. The company is based in Upper Austria and takes pride in the high quality and uniqueness of their products.

02

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge was to give Ginlos a fresh, holistic brand identity and packaging design that communicates their unique values and catches the attention of the target group when they see the bottles on the shelves. The additional creation of branded Social Media content as well as a large-scale poster should help to connect with the right audience.

03.1

UNDERSTANDING BUSINESS, CUSTOMERS & BRAND

Step one of a new project always consists of getting to know the business and its customers : What does Ginlos offer, what’s the company’s mission, who does that appeal to, what are the competitors doing? Defining a target group as well as unique customer personas helped to get a better understanding of what kind of “brand look & feel” is in line with the company’s values and appeals to its audience.

LOGO & BRAND CREATION

After what felt like hundreds of logo sketches, a new tailor-made brand identity was born.
The new appearance of Ginlos consists of a logo, hand-picked typography, colours and imagery as well as recurring design elements. The logo was inspired by classic crystal glasses, and key words such as quality, community, enjoyment, elegance, closeness to nature and modernity are visually reflected in the overall design. The implemented colours and shapes combine light and dark, round and angular, feminine and masculine and thus appeal to the diverse target group.

PACKAGING DESIGN

Three different designs were created for the product’s variations classic, herbal and citrus.

Like the logo, the bottles and labels were given an illustrative but classy look to match the brand’s personality: playful, young yet elegant. Handmade illustrations of animals serve as eye-catchers, reflecting the different flavours and at the same time picking up on the brand’s closeness to nature. Delicate illustrations in combination with rougher textures provide contrast and a homemade feel.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Directly connecting with the target audience.

Ginlos also needed a presence on social media channels. In this specific case I created templates for the profiles and posts as well as visual moods for Twitter and Instagram as the audience can be best reached through these platforms. The brand presence and content was custom designed for each platform, Ginlos on Twitter is witty, approachable and young, the Instagram content is more focused on inspiration, friendship and lifestyle.

POSTER DESIGN

Last step: Attracting attention with advertisment.

Last but not least, a poster was designed to draw the attention of the target group to the brand. The design picks up on the modern and likeable side of the brand’s personality. The poster is kept minimalistic, the text is slightly sassy and is intended to not only attract attention but also to be memorable. A wordplay with a German phrase which directly translates to being “not quite tight” (which actually means “being drunk”), alludes to the alcohol-free nature of the gin, but at the same time addresses having the courage to be different.
